Paper Boat Quilt Set & Link to Free Pattern from Brown Bird Designs Quilts

Have you seen the Paper Boat quilt on my Instagram feed??  Well, I am so happy to have them off of my list of things to do.  That’s right!!  These Paper Boat Quilts are finished.  They have been a work in progress for a while now.

Paper Boat Quilt Set

I am part of the Do Good Stitches, a charity sewing bee, and my group is the Harmony Circle.  The way this group works is, one quilter sets the block for that month and everyone in the group mails two finished blocks to that quilter. The quilter creates a finished quilt and donates ...

Topsy Quilt by Sheila Christensen from Wendy's Quilts and More

I told you I got inspired at the Kapiti Quilt Show last week.  I saw Sheila Christensen's Topsy quilt on her stall, and I remembered that I had bought the pattern back in October at our own guild's exhibition.

I had promised that I would make new quilts for the bedrooms when we had them painted four years ago, so I decided "this is it".  And I started cutting all my blue fabrics to make a quilt for the room with a blue feature wall.

Amani from Sew Preeti Quilts

Lately several of my sentences begin with "After we get vaccinated..."

Of course this time in our lives has been unlike any other with few guidelines and little direction.  We have had to improvise as we went along.

Making the Checks and Balances quilt your own from Stitch and Yarn

Pictured above is the original Checks and Balances quilt. I don't know what it is about this pattern but for me it inspires play – I'm constantly coming up with new options for it.

I think I've made five or six versions now and I decided that instead of continuing to make them myself, I'd show you the ideas, so you can use them with the pattern as the basis for your own quilts and I can get on to other designs!

The original Checks and Balances works in vertical columns of colour that are randomly placed ...

Men in Black from Sew Preeti Quilts

What to do when an UFO (unfinished object) menace strikes?
Summon the Men in Black :-D

Men in Black

It began in 2014.  The basic premise was layer fabrics, cut, shuffle, stitch and repeat.

Blocks from 2014

Once the blocks were made, I struggled with the layout.

I made a flimsy (no pictures of Flimsy #1) and then had second thoughts.
Some blocks were removed to arrive at a better layout. And then it was put away.

Thank you Sandra

On the banks of Lake Ontario

I took the flimsy with me on my trip to Niagara/Buffalo.
These pictures ...
